01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One of the pleasures of dining at Kaishoen is finishing a yakiniku meal with hand-cut cold noodles, made to order. Diners praise the firm noodles and refreshing miso soup as a palate-cleansing follow-up to grilled meat. The menu also includes regular cold noodles, miso cold noodles and bibim noodles. The authentic hand-cut noodles come in small, medium and large sizes for 770 yen, 880 yen and 1,100 yen respectively, making them an option whether you have already eaten plenty of meat or want noodles to take centre stage.

The grilled selection ranges from familiar cuts such as premium skirt steak and premium loin to thick-cut steak and premium tongue. If you are new to the restaurant and want to sample several cuts, the Special Premium Assortment is one option: it combines thick-cut steak, premium loin, premium tongue, premium omasum, premium skirt steak and boneless short rib, and serves 2–3 people. Among individual orders, one lunch diner appreciated the tenderness of the premium skirt steak, while another customer singled out the thickness and satisfying bite of the salted tongue.

For a comparison of offal, you can choose an assorted platter of 150 g or order individual cuts such as premium omasum, large intestine or fatty offal. Texture varies by cut and order: one lunch diner found the meat and offal on the firm side, while another enjoyed the tenderness of the premium skirt steak. Kimchi or assorted namul make good accompaniments between rounds of grilling. For a more substantial finish, there is also jjigae with tofu, offal and spicy cod roe, as well as tail gukbap.

At lunch, one diner reported enjoying a Yakiniku A Set featuring regular salted tongue, pork belly, premium omasum, cheek and skirt steak, along with chewy japchae and mildly spicy kimchi. The set meal is an option if you want to try a range of grilled meats at lunchtime; reservations are also an option for a more leisurely evening of meat and drinks. The drinks list includes beer and fresh makgeolli, so you can choose something to suit the pace of your meal.
